Workshop Programme

  • A commotion down at the Ocean - Dance/drama workshop for 5-7 yrs
    13th July 2010 to 16th July 2010


    Come dive, dig and discover!

    Let your 5 to 7 year old come on a magical adventure without ever leaving the comforts of our wonderful studios at The Auckland Performing Arts Centre. They will have loads of fun using their natural energy and imagination to explore their unique ideas through dance, drama, storytelling, puppetry and much much more!

    Plus a real life adventure at the TAPAC Theatre, The Treasure Island Show.

    THE TEACHERS

    Clare Battersby holds a Graduate Diploma in Movement and Dance from the University of Melbourne. She studied contemporary dance at Unitec and has lectured at Auckland College of Education. Clare creates and performs her own delightful outdoor events for children in Auckland parks. 'I love to encourage children to express their natural desire - to leap for the stars, roll across the earth and run through empty spaces.'

    Judith Bishop has a Diploma in Drama from Auckland University and has spent 20 years involved in theatre in education. She is co-director of Theatre Frontier creating shows with strong environmental themes. Judith has recently trained as a clown doctor with the Red Nose Clown Doctors International. "I adore working with children and look forward to plunging into their different realms, worlds and realities"

    Janine Burchett trained at Toi Whakaari NZ Drama School and was NZ's Most Promising Actress in 1998. Janine worked extensively in NZ theatre and television before moving to Sydney in 2002 to play Mrs Darling/Tinkerbell in Peter Pan. Janine wrote and produced the multiple international award winning children's film Gabriel, which continues to screen at film festivals around the world.

  • JULY SCHOOL HOLIDAY CIRCUS WORKSHOPS!

    5th – 9th July

    12th – 16th July

    ALL ABILITIES - 8 to 15 years

    A wonderful opportunity to experience the thrill and excitement of the big top in a safe, fun, learning environment.

    This is a challenging physical course that focuses on the techniques used by circus performers on the ground and in the air. Through physical warm-ups, acrobatics, tumbling and juggling you will develop your motor skills, strength, flexibility and endurance. You will experience the thrill of practicing new skills on a suspended circus rig including static trapeze (single and double trapeze that do not swing), lyra (hanging hoop) and aerial silks (hanging stretch fabric).

    The workshop covers a wide range of circus arts, and is a wonderful confidence builder with internationally experienced tutors and coaches dedicated to helping each student reach their fullest potential.

  • YOUTH SCREEN ACTING WORKSHOPS

    13th & 14th July – 11 to 13 yrs
    &
    15th & 16th July – 14 to 17 yrs

    10am – 4pm
    All abilities

    These workshops are for youth who want to gain some specific TV and film acting skills and auditioning techniques from an industry professional.
    Over the 2 days of the workshop we will be focusing on TV commercial audition technique as well as general screen technique.

    Day One: You will be discovering how to present yourself on camera, how to read an audition script and how you can maximise your potential at an audition.

    Day Two: We will focus on general screen technique and work with TV/ film scripts.

    On both days of the workshop we will be filming your work and then playing it back so you can see what’s working for you and what you need to work on.
    This will be a practical and enjoyable workshop where you will learn the basics of screen acting technique… So come along ready to focus, take some risks, meet some new people and have fun!

    THE TEACHER
    Fiona Edgar has worked as an actor, writer and casting director for the last 20 years. She wrote and performed in several comedy shows including A Girls Gotta Eat and I’m Gonna Marry Marvin and she has performed in several NZ Television shows in roles including Fran Piper on Shortland Street in 2006.
    As a casting director she has cast numerous TV commercials - most recently 3 ads for NZ Post and 4 for Mainland Special Reserve Cheese. She also cast the movie ‘Broken English’ which was nominated for three NZ best actor awards.
    Fiona is keen for her students to develop focus, courage and dynamics in her classes.
