Felicity Molloy

Felicity Molloy’s career in the performing arts spans a wide range of roles and communities. From performing since the early 80s in dance and physical theatre companies (Impulse, Limbs, Inside Out and Auckland Ballet) she has become one of the country’s most well know dance educators at tertiary level. Her teaching portfolio includes ballet, Aeroballet©, yoga, somatics, anatomy and massage Otago Polytechnic & Wellpark College). She has also worked across all age ranges and levels in community and professional settings including guest work with many NZ contemporary dance companies, (Black Grace, Atamira, Touch Compass and Backlit). As well as administering the AUT/SPARC funded "Dance and the Reduction of Falls in Elderly people", she is developing a dance programme for the elderly (Dance Mobility) and completed an MEd, Unitec (2009) researched the potential for somatic practices in NZ mainstream schools. She is currently working with BikeNZ’s Olympic hopeful. Ethan Mitchell and Lifesport Gym presenting yoga in a style oriented around the success of the individual in their chosen field. Felicity has written and reviewed for Theatreview and Big idea with scholarly presentations including "Spacemaking," SDHS Chicago, "Moving Architecture," XXII World Congress, Istanbul, (2005), "Dancing into the Classroom, Te kanikaniki roto i te ruma," ICHPER Congress, NZ (2006), "The Construction of Somatic Space: Subjectivity as Scaffold for the Mature Dancer's Aesthetic Inventory,"WDA Global Summit (Brisbane, 2008), Unseeables Design Seminar (2009). More recently, Felicity spent a productive and enjoyable time as Creative Director for the Performing Arts School of New Zealand (2010 – 2011) and this year returns to her role as Artistic Director for the Award winning Pointy Dog Dance Company, as well as focusing on completion of a doctoral study at the University of Auckland.
